Top 100 most populous countries

The total number of humans as of March 29, 2025 is 8,209,753,390. And most of them live in Asia with the most populous countries being India and China. The rapid growth of population in this region began from the 1950s. As a result, now 5 places in the top 10 are occupied by Asian countries.

All other continents are represented only by one or two countries: Nigeria and Ethiopia (Africa), Brazil (South America), Russia is from Europe (since most of the populace lives in the European part), and the USA (North America).

However, this situation could change drastically by 2050. According to estimates published by the UN, the main driver of future growth will be Africa (plus 62%). The number of Europeans will decline approximately by 6%.

The three African countries (Nigeria, Ethiopia, DR Congo) will enter the top 10. At the same time, Russia will drop to 13th spot in the ranking, thus leaving the top of the list without European representation.

The three member states of the Group of Seven (G7), Japan, Germany, and Italy, will not be able to maintain their positions in the ranking due to the projected significant population decline in these countries.

The total world population in 2050 will reach 9,664,378,590.
